Wynn Casino’s John Avello has updated his 2015 Kentucky Derby future odds in the wake of Saratoga’s Hopeful winner Competitive Edge out with a leg fracture. Del Mar Futurity winner American Pharoah remains the early favorite at 40-1.
At 65-1 is El Kabeir, who like American Pharoah is owned by Zayat Stables. The Scat Daddy colt broke his maiden on his second start by 10 3/4 lengths Aug. 30 at Saratoga, earning a 100 BRIS speed figure.
Here’s a fun horse at 225-1: Dukin’ With Dale, a son of Indian Charlie named in honor of the high-profile fist fight trainer Dale Romans had with Eddie Musselman, publisher of the irreverent backside opinion sheet named Indian Charlie. After winning first time out at five furlongs, Dukin’ With Dale was a well-beaten second to heavy favorite Hebbronville (150-1 in the latest odds) in a 5-1/2-furlong allowance race at Parx.
Trainer John Servis gets credit for coming up with the name.
